Pheasants Forever is a tax-exempt, non-profit conservation organization which originated in 1982 in the Twin Cities area of
Minnesota. A group of conservation minded individuals concerned about declining pheasant populations formed to support
habitat development to foster increased pheasant populations. By building a grass-roots organization that depends on local
volunteers raising and spending funds in their local communities, Pheasants Forever has grown to over 600 chapters consisting
of 125,000 members in the US and Canada.
Here in Blackhawk County our PF chapter began 28 years ago with its first fundraising banquet in 1986. Since that time we have
partnered with private individuals and public entities to spend over a half million dollars on the advancement of conservation right here in Blackhawk County.
Our local focus has been multi-faceted over the years but has included such things as supporting private habitat projects, public habitat projects, public awareness of conservation matters and support of local, state and national conservation programs. Here in Blackhawk County we understand that like former President Teddy Roosevelt, the best conservationists are those who
enjoy the great outdoors and hunting. To that end we began a Youth Mentor Hunt and will conduct our 6th annual YMH on 19
October 2013. This year will mark over 100 boys and girls age 12 to 15 who have had an opportunity to participate. Also in the
area of youth development we have established an annual budget to sponsor boys and girls at the numerous outdoor camps
offered by the DNR. Our joint conservation efforts with the Blackhawk County Conservation Board continue in 2013 with our chapter funding the seeding of approximately 40 acres of native tall grass prairie on public lands.
All of these initiatives are made possible by funds raised at our annual banquet. This year our banquet will feature about 35
guns, classic wildlife prints, hundreds of raffle and game prizes and an auction of items sure to interest the outdoor enthus
iast. Not to mention that you need to be on the lookout for the furry little ball of fun that we always have available and who is sure to end up someone’s best hunting companion. Please plan on attending our 28thannual banquet to help us celebrate our past accomplishments and fund future conservation efforts right here in Blackhawk County.
